Eligible employers for the employment of a domestic helper.

For the employment of a domestic worker from a third country, the employer must meet income criteria which differ according to the category to which they fall:

Families with an annual gross total family income of at least:
€24,000 without children,
€30,000 with one (1) dependent child,
€36,000 with two (2) dependent children and
€42,000 with three (3) or more dependent children.

Single-parent families with an annual gross family income of at least:
€24,000 with one (1) dependent child,
€30,000 with two (2) dependent children
€36,000 with three (3) or more dependent children.

Single people with an annual gross total income of at least €24,000

People over 65 with an annual gross family income of at least:
€24,000 for a couple and
€18,000 for monasteries

Employer exemptions from the income criteria:
Persons certified by the Department of Social Integration of Persons with Disabilities.
EEE beneficiaries.
Beneficiaries of Low-Pensioners’ Allowance and Disability Pension Beneficiaries.

Allowed number of domestic workers per employer

The employment of up to two domestic workers is permitted in:
bed, or overweight people,

The employment of up to three domestic workers is permitted in:

Persons suffering from severe mobility disability, paraplegia or quadriplegia upon presentation of a relevant certificate from the Department of Social Integration, severe physical disability by presenting a relevant certificate from the EEE,
moderate or higher mental disability or severe or higher mental disability with the presentation of a relevant certificate from the EEE,
individuals or families with an annual gross family income of at least €100,000.

Based on legislation passed by the Cypriot Government, employers are obliged to provide suitable accommodation for the domestic helper. This space can be in the same house or in another place.

Yes, under the Law the employer is obliged to provide medical insurance and employer’s liability insurance to the foreign national, as defined by the regulations.

This can happen at any time by mutual agreement between employer and employee after signing the release document in front of witnesses.
